Cutting Loose from Status Quo

Men are afraid to rock the boat in which they hope to drift safely through life's currents, when, actually, the boat is stuck on a sandbar. They would be better off to rock the boat and try to shake it loose. ~Thomas
SzaszWho is not afraid of the unknowns or uncertainties in life? While most of us are consciously afraid to take risks, we do it, in fact, each waking day of our lives. In people’s vocabulary, trivial matters may not be called risks, but in real sense, they are. Whenever I drove home late from work, I say an earnest little prayer that I arrive home safely, Why? Because I always consider it too risky when you have worked your ass-off the whole day, and you are still forced to drive home. The fatigue wears off a fraction of your psychomotor and cognitive skills and that could be a potential accident. I know, I’d been there twice.

You may say that is an entirely different scenario. The point here is taking risks is inevitable. Getting out of any particular status quo is very difficult for some of us, to pull this back in context. Funny, we would rather do other crazy stuff (‘rock the boat’) than cut ourselves loose from our ‘security blankets.’

It is good to take risks, calculated risks that is. That’s what makes life exciting to live.
