I’m caught between making sense in my blogging and monetizing it. The money is there. Extra money on the wallet is not bad at all. In fact, I earned an extra $1,000 in the last 45 days since I monetized this blog. However, with that, now I am confronted with the issue of putting forth more time in this activity rather than my work. Very tempting. At the rate I am going, I might be able to break the $5000 mark in the next 45 days –easily. Then, I might as well turn this into a career, huh.
Am I still making sense?
Blogging to make sense (not only money), you have to take your readers seriously. Commenting back is only one thing. The burden is on writing quality and sensible posts regardless of the issues or topics (including intents and purposes) at hand. When people read your blog, they are actually inviting you to influence. When they read and leave their comments or reactions, you have actually impressed on them something of value or sometimes, of no value, I must admit. Of course, the former is always preferable.
Keeping up with the title
I’ve never changed the title of this blog since it was launched last March 2007–my sense and sensibility, including my ‘non-senses.’ The inclusion of the last phrase (now, omitted from the header) was actually meant to be a safety net. It is my defense mechanism should I be criticized in lacking senses in some of my posts. Lately, this blog is riddled with those. Ahh! Who cares?! Ahhh! I was hoping no one does. However, there were actually many of you who really cares about what I blog, including why I blog. In fact, I was thankful with some of you who took the pains to email, reminded me, and kept me on track.
Getting back on my senses
It is not too late to get back on track. (Yeah, I am telling that to myself.)I can still put back the sense and sensibility in this blog, and lesser of the ‘non-senses.’ Why not? You keep on coming. That should be more than enough as a reason to renew my enthusiasm. Thank you so much.
Now, let me hear your thoughts please.
I agee with you on this struggle. I'm always walking a fine line between just blogging personal opinion/status posts versus those that inform. It seems with the latter you have to really be ahead of the game in writing a post that informs earlier than others do.
ReplyDeleteYou made 1,000 dollars in 45 days on your blog? HOLY cow!
ReplyDelete@ the monetizer
ReplyDeletethank God! At least there is one who can relate.
Now, I am quite hesitant to post just about anything. If you've noticed, I have almost stripped this blog with those ads as well, except for a couple: one for SERP's ranking purposes, the other because I believe on the product -insurance. The rest of the banners are cause-oriented.
@rachel
well, yeah I did. I was amazed myself. However, that income was not generated through banner ads (am still waiting for the payments for those ads)but through paid reviews. I suffered one penalty though in exchange -my PR was chopped by the almighty G from 5 down to 2 (*sighs).
Anyways, the money is in the bag.
Hey thanks for finding me through entrecard...this is the exact dilemma I am in right now...well, actually, I don't make that much money, but if I wrote more paid posts I could. But then I feel like people come to hear my life stories and for a laugh - so I'm pulled in two directions. I try and make the paid posts funny, but it's tough. Somebody recently commented on my polka dot wedding dress post (payperpost) that my actual wedding story was great, except for the paid links at the bottom. sigh.
ReplyDeleteDunno what to do. But I'll go approve your ad on my blog now. hehe
