Watching my son grow and growing-up with him

Seeing my son grow a little taller and smarter each day is such a delight. How I wish that he remains a little boy forever, but that is not so. He will inevitably grow, mature and leave the nest.watching my son grow and growing-up with him

Incidentally, I chance upon this poem written by Alice E. Chase, entitled “To My Grown-Up Sons,” and I thought I should share it with you. It reminded me to take always the time to enjoy and cherish each moment with my son, watch him grow, teach him about life, and grow-up with him. I do not want to retire sighing and regretting that I missed those special moments, that I should have taken the time. Here is the poem, and have your say afterwards:

My hands were busy through the day I didn't have much time to play The little games you asked me to I didn't have much time for you. I'd wash your clothes, I'd sew and cook, but when you'd bring your picture book And ask me please to share your fun, I'd say: "A little later, son". I'd tuck you in all safe at night and hear your prayers, turn out the light, Then tiptoe softly to the door... I wish I'd stayed a minute more. For life is short, the years rush past...a little boy grows up so fast. No longer is he at your side, his precious secrets to confide. The picture books are put away, there are no longer games to play, No good-night kiss, no prayers to hear...that all belongs to yesteryear. My hands, once busy, now are still, the days are long and hard to fill. I wish I could go back and do the little things you asked me to.

  4. That's a lovely poem. Every minute we spend with our children is worth it. Time can go by so fast and we should really appreciate every moment.

  6. I understand this so well. We are so busy making a living that we tend to forget to live. Love the poem. I am passing it on to my daughters and their young children.

  8. Hello, I love your blog and the poem is great, but I looked it up on Google to get more background on it and it's by a woman named Alice E. Chase I believe. Thank you for sharing. I also have a son and I am already missing him even though he's not grown up and out of the house yet! thank you for advertising on my site via Entrecard.

  9. Thank you Rose. ^^,

I will rectify it. I read this book in a magazine article hence I cited the author of the article, and never checked the 'real' author of the poem.

    Again, many thanks. ^^

  11. so touching and it's true you should give your best attention and time to your son now that his world revolves around you, when he grows older he'll spend his time on his friends!
