I grew-up in Subic, Philippines where the biggest US Naval Base in the Asia-Pacific used to reside until the Philippine Senate vetoed the extension of its lease in 1992. My dad was US Navy personnel himself; hence, I am used to seeing Marine in uniforms most of the time. I dreamed of joining the US Navy’s Marine Corps then, but time never permitted me. I took up Engineering then Business Management, so the dream of becoming a Marine faded.
Well now, other than enjoying the adrenalin rush of an online combat-simulated game like First Strike, on my free time I spend shooting practices with friends in the Police force. In addition, lately, I was hooked into soft gun games (one of my guilty pleasures). Somehow, in that game I am able to live what I used to fantasized about going into mission. The game is addictive, and a bit costly. Other than having a good soft gun set, you need to gear up like a marine. That’s why I cannot help myself but to drool on the new Tactical Pants I saw online.
Going back, you may still wonder why I did not join the Marine Corps? Well, foremost, I did not get Mom’s blessings, and second, there was a radical change in my ideology about war. The former is self-explanatory huh. The choice was mine actually. My parents allowed us to decide which path we want to take, with or without their blessings. The latter reason is bred more from idealism. You will find me contradicting myself here, but I really do hate violence in all forms. I am still wrestling with this issue, so bear with me there. Anyway, the military was instituted to keep peace and safeguard our liberty hence it is necessary. But honestly, in all these, it was a conscious choice I made.
