A lovely thing about Christmas is that it's compulsory, like a thunderstorm, and we all go through it together. ~Garrison KeillorI know that I am sounding the bell too early.
Can’t help it, we are already half-way down September. And before you knew it, the holiday shopping rush starts. To top it all, my list has grown longer.
Nah, I am not complaining here. It’s just that, the holiday that used to be an exciting and festive season, has now turned into an obligation of sort –gifts to buy and holiday cards to send. Worse, for some, the recession makes any form of celebration no affordable. Of course, celebration need not be lavish, and we always celebrate in simpler and inexpensive ways.
Fact is, in the Christendom Christmas is indeed ‘compulsory’. For the right reason, it must. It is the birth of Christianity. “Peace on earth and Goodwill to all men” is a resounding message that is worth commemorating repeatedly. We need to be reminded. We always forget. Just look around you.
I am not trying to be preachy here. I just want to sound off something that we tend to neglect. I how this time may we be reminded that "'tis the season to be jolly."
