Travesty

mask
Every man alone is sincere. At the entrance of a second person, hypocrisy begins. We parry and fend the approach of our fellow-man by compliments, by gossip, by amusements, by affairs. We cover up our thought from him under a hundred folds. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Friendship," Essays, 1841
Life can be a travesty of something more real. It’s one of the reasons that sometimes it is difficult to trust people.

Reflecting on the passion of the Lord (I know this is a bit untimely, as His birth will be celebrated), especially on the occasion where two of his disciples betrayed him, namely Judas (who hanged himself afterwards) and Peter, His most trusted disciple. He continued to trust them in spite.

Unlike Him, foreknowledge like that is impossible to handle. We can easily cloak ourselves with a charade of goodness even deep within we harbor suspicions and deceits.
