Single Dad’s Homelife Recipes

single dad learning to cookExperiments in the Kitchen

Okay, before I mislead you with the title, allow me to say that I am not about to show you any secret recipe to whet your appetite. Although, one of the exciting and fun things about being a single dad is learning how to cook. Yeah. And sometimes, some of these ‘works of art’ are not really fit for human consumption. Lol. Alright, I am still learning. I know a wifey always does it better. I'm glad that my son was not poisoned in any way with my cooking experiments. On the contrary, he seems to have developed a liking for my ‘unknown’ cuisines. Poor child! Does he need to suffer the role of a genie pig every time I experiment on a new recipe I got from blogs I read?

House Re-engineering

Other than my misadventures in the kitchen, I have somehow adapted myself into the homelife thingy, that is, working and staying at home almost 90% of my waking life. I have also learned how to go about re-engineering the house (forgive the technical term there).

I am no longer particularly concerned how my garage looks and the tools (I rarely use) on my collection. I now see every room in the house in a different light. Meaning, I am now concerned about how the living room is lit, the dining room is set, and how the bedrooms should look. And lately, after just completing a minor renovation on the kitchen, I am now considering small bathroom remodeling. ‘Small’ in the sense that I want it completed soonest and in the cheapest possible way. Because next to the kitchen, a complete renovation of the bathroom is costly and is not practical these days.

Budgeting 101: Managing House Operational Expenses

Another, I have learned to budget house ‘operational expenses’, which includes paying bills, groceries, the nanny, my extra-curricular activities (fewer dates, nowadays! *sighs*), pimping my car (none of that these days actually), etc. One interesting habit I also acquired is keeping and using coupon codes and trying free samples. (Sheews! Yeah, I do. Especially when I do my weekly tour-of-duty to the supermarket). Mind you, I am saving a lot. Funny, before I took these things for granted, but now I collect and use them on my purchases. Isn’t that amazing? Wouldn’t that make me more appealing to the ladies out there? (",) Not only that, I now keep tabs of mall sales, and prefer buying discounted products.

Alright, nuf of the bragging there. I know, these are not really homelife recipes but more of the not-so-mundane things that I begun to appreciate about staying at home, and how mothers do it well.
